NSCDC nabs four suspected vandals in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested four suspected vandals in Babura Local Government Area, Jigawa State.

Spokesman of the command, CSC Adamu Shehu confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said the four suspects include, 20-year-old Yahaya Rabiu, Rabilu Alto, Haruna Mustapha and Ibrahim Isa, both 18yrs, from Tsohon Kafi, Kazaure Local Government.

Adamu explained that the suspects were arrested on Monday at about 6:00 am upon receipt of a distress call at the NSCDC Divisional office by a good samaritan living in the area who sighted the suspects at about 2:30 am while committing the crime.

He said they were arrested in possession of 70 meters of 16mm 4 core streetlight armored cable which they conspired, vandalized, and stole along Titin Tanda Street, Akula Quarters, Babura LGA, belonging to Jigawa State Ministry of Works and Transport.

The NSCDC spokesman said investigation is ongoing to ascertain whether the suspects have a hand in the recent vandalism and theft of armored cables at various Water Plants and streetlights in the State.

He said the offenses (vandalization, conspiracy, and theft) are contrary and punishable under section 1(9) of the miscellaneous offenses act, sections 96 and 97 of the penal code, and sections 286 and 287 of the penal code law.

“The suspects will be charged to court after a thorough investigation,” he said.

The NSCDC State Commandant, Musa Alhaji Malah (CC), called on residents to be vigilant and report acts of vandalism and any form of crime and criminality to the nearest NSCDC office or other security agencies near them.
