U.S exit from Syria not expected to impact int’l anti Islamic state battle – Pompeo

U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has said the U.S. decision to withdraw forces from Syria will not impact the capacity of the international coalition to fight the Islamic State (IS) militants.

Pompeo who started a visit to the Middle East on Tuesday met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman, consulting on issues like the situation in Syria and so-called “Iran’s threat”.

Meanwhile, Pompeo hailed Jordan a strategic partner in the region, saying it plays a critical role in regional security and stability and combating terrorism.

December last year, the U.S. decided to retreat its forces from Syria, which sparked controversy between the country and its allies.
