#NigeriaDecides2023: Armed Thugs Hijack Ballot Boxes In Abuja

A few hours before the voting deadline, some suspected thugs snatched ballot boxes at Dagiri Polling Unit, Gwagwalada center, Abuja.

An eyewitness, identified as Cecelia, who spoke with PUNCH said the five thugs stormed the voting center with sticks and knives.

She noted that the attack was after a good number of persons in the area had voted.

She said: “I was standing here when Five guys with sticks and knives to destroy the ballot boxes and everybody ran away. They used sticks to hit the ballot boxes and left.”

Another resident said the thugs could carry out the attack because no security official was attached to the area.

Suspected Hoodlums Invade Gombe INEC Ad Hoc Staff Camp
In other news, a few hours before the commencement of the presidential and national assembly elections, hoodlums attacked ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It was learned that the ad hoc staff were camped at Tudunwada Primary School in the Gombe metropolis.

According to Punch, the attackers took away no fewer than three phones, backpacks, and power banks.

However, three persons have been rushed to the hospital having sustained machete cuts, while others are nursing varying injuries.

An eyewitness who confirmed the attack on condition of anonymity said the hoodlums made away with the phones of some of his colleagues who were trained to conduct the presidential and national assembly elections.
