UK Turned Down Request To Extradite Diezani – AIG

Umar said a mutual legal assistance (MLA) processes were followed in a bid to bring Diezani back but the UK government refused.

Garba Baba Umar, the Assistant Inspector General of Police and Head of Interpol’s National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, has revealed the request to extradite Mrs Deziani Alison-Madueke, a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, has been turned down by the United Kingdom.

Speaking on the sidelines of an investigative hearing by a House of Representative Adhoc committee investigating the alleged illegal sale of 48 million barrels of crude oil, Umar said a mutual legal assistance (MLA) processes were followed in a bid to bring Diezani back but the UK government refused.

The police boss added that his effort led to the arrest and repatriation of the former head of pension funds, Abdulrasheed Maina, and the former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke (SAN).

He Said;

”We repatriated many Nigerians who were alleged to have swindled the Nigerian government. I went personally and brought Maina from Niger.

I brought the former Attorney-General from Dubai and many other Nigerians who absconded.

We brought them back to face justice and those who are in Nigeria hiding we took them back to their various countries to face justice.

The issue of Diezani, a warrant of arrest is issued. I am sorry to say the government of the UK turned down our request.
