The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has enjoined the people of Modakeke to join hands with the Ogunsua of Modakeke for the progress, unity, peace and overall development of the town.

Governor Oyetola stated this on Thursday during the presentation of staff of office and instrument of appointment to the new Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola.

The governor, who congratulated the monarch for being considered worthy of ascending the throne of his forefathers, also appealed to the people of the town to continue to sustain the existing peace and shun all acts of violence.

While wishing Oba Toriola, Ogunsua Modakeke a successful tenure, the governor prayed God to bless him with long life and prosperity on the throne.

He also assured that his administration will not relent in its efforts to play its role in that regard.

The presentation of the staff of office to the new Ogunsua is coming in a period when there have been protests in some towns within the State against the State government’s appointment of some monarchs.

Youths in Ikinrun have protested against the State government’s appointment of Prince Yinusa Olalekan Akadiri as the Akinrun.

They claimed that Prince Akadiri is from the Obaara Ruling House, while it was the turn of the Gboleru Ruling House to present a candidate for the stool.

The State government in its defence through Rasaq Adeosun, the Special Adviser to the governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs disclosed that the government acted in accordance with the law.

Kingmakers in Iree on their part led by the Aogun of Iree, Chief Saliu Atoyebi are objecting to the inclusion of Chief (Mrs) Serifat Adebayo, the Iyalode of Iree land into the council of kingmakers.
