Two operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Anambra State were Friday night killed by unknown gunmen, the corps’ public relations officer Edwin Okadigbo told THE WHISTLER.
The incident occurred at Nneyi in Umueri, Anambra East LGA at 21.05pm. Their rifles were also carted away by the attackers, Mr Okadigbo said.
According to him, “Two officers of the corps that sustained gunshot injuries from the incident lost their lives.
“Regrettably, their rifles were carted away after which the official vehicle was set ablaze. Our officers on duty engaged the attackers, which resulted in the death of the two officers of the corps at the end of the melee.”
The attackers shot rapidly, and attempts to repel them by the men of NSCDC were unsuccessful. An official vehicle of the corps was also set ablaze, the PRO said.
Attacks on security formations in Southeast by unknown gunmen have increased of late, leaving scores of people dead and security facilities destroyed.
