Insecurity: Senate President Lawan Speaks On Impeaching President Buhari

The Nigerian Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has ruled out the possibility of the lawmakers impeaching President Muhammadu Buhari over the waves of insecurity in Nigeria.

According to Lawan, impeaching Buhari will not solve the current security challenges the nation is battling with.

He made this position known during the finals of the first Plateau North Peace, Unity, and Reconciliation football tournament organized by Istifanus Gyang, senator representing Plateau North District in the Senate.

He however called for desperate measures to be deployed in addressing the situation.

Lawan, who was represented by Benue North-East Senator, Gabriel Suswan, said: “Impeaching President Buhari is not the focus of the National Assembly as that may not solve the problem of insecurity in the country. But desperate action is needed by the commander-in-chief to allay the fears of Nigerians.”

“What we are facing today requires desperate action by the executive but that is forthcoming.”

Suswan in his submission seemed to absolve the lawmakers of blame in the current situation, saying the buck stops on the table of the executive to implement motions and resolutions passed by the lawamkers.

“We in the National Assembly have continued to do our best. We have passed motions and resolutions, but most of them have not been respected. The president needs to put the interest of Nigeria above any other,” the former governor said.
