Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State on Wednesday met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the herdsmen crisis rocking the nation.
Speaking to State House correspondents after meeting Buhari, Governor Matawalle said all states must now embrace Ruga.
The Zamfara governor pointed out that the presidency must intervene to sustain the peace Zamfara is now enjoying’, adding that the solution to the recurring violence between farmers and herders “is in sight”.
“All state governments must brace up and construct grazing grounds, popularly called Ruga, so as to find a lasting solution to clashes between herdsmen and farmers across the country,” he said.
Matawalle expressed confidence that the provision of the grazing grounds will discourage herdsmen’s desire for relocation.
“In Zamfara, we are constructing Ruga for them. If we allow them to keep moving around, migrating from one State to another, we cannot bring this issue to an end,” he stated.
He said governors were discussing ways to contain herders in one place, adding that constant migration will continue to create problems in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the names of the students and staffs of the Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State abducted in the early hours of Wednesday has been released.
The bandits stormed the school premises and abducted 27 students, 3 teachers, two non-teaching staff and 9 family members of the staff staying in the quarters.
The names of the abducted teachers are Hannatu Philip, Lawal Abdullahi and Dodo Fodio while the non-teaching staff are Mohammed Musa and Faiza Mohammed.
The abducted family members are Christiana Adama, Faith Adama, Maimuna Suleman, Nura Isah, Ahmad Isah, Khadizat Isah, Mohammed Mohammed, Aisha Isah and Saratu Isah.
The students are: Jamilu Isah, Shem Joshua, Abbas Abdullahi, Isah Abdullahi, Ezekeil Danladi, Haliru Shuibu, Mamuda Suleman, Danzakar Dauda, Abdulsamad Sanusi, Bashir Abbas.
Suleman Lawal, Abdullahi Adamu, Habakuk Augustine, Idris Mohammed, Musa Adamu, Abdulkarim Abdulrahman, Abubakar Danjumma, Abdullahi Abubakar, Bashir Kamalideen, Mohammed Salisu.
Yusuf M Kabir, Isah Abdullah Makusidi, Polineous Vicente, Lawal Bello, Mohammed K Shehu, Mubarak Sidi and Abdulsamad Nuhu.
The student shot and killed by the bandits in the school premises was Benjamin Habila.
