Nigeria Records Second Coronavirus Death

The Nigerian Government has confirmed the second death from COVID-19 in the country. The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, announced this in a press briefing at Abuja on Monday.

The First case COVID-19 death was confirmed in Nigeria on 23rd March 2020, was a 67-year-old male who returned home following medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

The NCDC had reported that the first case had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma and diabetes and was undergoing chemotherapy.

Naija News Understands that the victim was a former managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC).

He was said to have started exhibiting the symptoms of the virus on Tuesday and the case was reported to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) who took his blood specimen for a test. He tested positive and was evacuated to the specialist hospital, Gwagwalada in Abuja but died while receiving treatment.
