Sowore: Use of power under Buhari is alien to Nigerian constitution – Ezekwesili

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has reacted to the actions of operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, at a Federal High Court in Abuja when they came to re-arrest Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow protest.

The DSS operatives reportedly stormed the court on Friday, December 6, and chased away lawyers as they tried to arrest Sowore.

In reaction, Ezekwesili, via a series of tweets, stated that the use of power under President Buhari is alien to the Nigerian Constitution and International Law.

“President @MBuhari , the whole world is watching the video of officials of the State Security Service which you directly supervise, brutally violate the constitutional rights of a citizen @YeleSowore inside a court and desecrated our Judiciary- an independent arm of government.

“Let it also be known by @MBuhari that the cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary use of the power he wields today as @NGRPresident is alien to our Nigerian Constitution and International Law.

I advise the President to cease this descent to fascism immediately and #RespectCourtOrder”, she wrote.

Sowore was re-arrested barely 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his release from the DSS custody and a sum of N100,000 to be paid to him by the agency for refusing to release him despite two court orders.
