Kano Govt Defies Court Order, Says Sacked Emirs Will Be Recognized

Hours after Kano High Court sacked Aminu Ado Bayero (Emir of Bichi), Ibrahim Gaya (Emir of Gaya), Tafida Ila (Emir of Rano), and Ibrahim Abukakar (Emir of Karaye), the Kano State Government has reacted to the court judgement.

Kano state high court has sacked four emirs appointed by Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of the state. Usman Na’Abba, the presiding judge, gave the order on Thursday. His judgment averred that the creation of the Emirates and appointment of four first Emirs was illegal.

While reacting to the court ruling, Kano Commissioner of Information Malam Muhammad Garba stated that the State’s government will still recognize the sacked monarchs as First Class Emirs and will continue dealing with them as such.

He also insisted that the State’s House of Assembly has the constitutional power and authority to create additional emirates.

Garba added that the court order will not make the state government concede its constitutional power in the interest of the well-being of the people and general development of the state.
