Fani-Kayode Attacks CAN For Meeting Buhari

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has slammed the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari over his re-election.

The former Minister of Culture and Tourism was reacting to a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leadership at the Presidential Villa.

In a post on his Twitter page on Friday, Fani-Kayode said CAN should not allow itself to be forced into congratulating the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its success at the last presidential election.

He alleged that the ruling party was responsible for the massacres and death of innocent Nigerians and yet rigged themselves back into office.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “You cannot claim to be a crusader for justice and a champion of those that have been massacred over the years and then contemplate congratulating those that are responsible for those massacres and that had the temerity to brazenly rig themselves back into power. CAN beware!

“I love CAN and I have always had the deepest respect for its leadership but this was a moment of shame and betrayal.

“They will live to regret congratulating a desperate and wicked tyrant that has so much Christian blood on his hands, that has nothing but contempt for the Church that has imprisoned and slaughtered his perceived enemies and that has orchestrated and affected the biggest rigging exercise in the history of our nation.

“Attempting to encourage and legitimise such a tyrant and giving him a stamp of approval makes absolutely no sense to me.”

The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had met with Buhari behind closed doors.

The meeting, which held at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, started around 11 am.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Danbazzau also attended the meeting between the President and the executives of the Christian body.
