Villagers Killed During Clash With Fulani Men And Berom Natives In Plateau (Photos)

Residents of Kwaghaslalek(1) and Mairana villages in Mangu Halle, Mangu local government area of Plateau state – had in this week experienced tragedy when armed men brutally left family members dead and many others wounded.

According to reports, a clash occurred between Fulani men and Berom natives in Alese village of Barkin Ladi LGA.

According to witnesses, it was gathered that some Fulani herdsmen forced their way to graze on Berom farms in the area last Saturday 9/2/19. When the farmers asked them to leave their community, the Fulani left but returned to the community the next day fully armed.

According to an eyewitness, the arrival of the armed Fulani men triggered an uproar in the village. When the community made a second attempt to chase them out, the Fulani militants went on rampage, shooting sporadically.

On retreating, the attackers shot and hacked a 26 year old young man, Plangkat Amos Dabok, at Kwaghaslalek village of Mangu Halle.

Kwaghaslalek Youths became furious and blocked the highway around Mairana village in protest for the killing of the young man. In process, they clashed with governor Simon Lalong’s convoy on his campaign trip to Mangu.

The security operatives attached to the convoy opened fire on the protesters, killing three and injuring many.

Report also says that the security men later rushed the wounded to Mangu General Hospital.

Two of the dead victims were buried on Tuesday, 11th and Wednesday 12th. The rest of the bodies are currently still in the morgue in Mangu.

The affected families and villagers were saddened by this development as they were left only to grieve their loses.
