INEC boss canvasses new approach to deployment of security forces during elections

Nigeria’s Chief Electoral Officer, Mahmood Yakubu, has canvassed a different approach to the deployment of security forces during the forthcoming general election.

Yakubu spoke at the quarterly consultative meeting with security agencies in Abuja ahead of the polls.

The INEC Chief describes Nigeria’s 84 million registered voters as the largest database of citizens in Africa and one of the largest voter registers in the world.

Nevertheless, he assures that the Commission will resume registration of new voters immediately after the elections.

And with thirty seven days to the election, Yakubu says security deployment this time, must be in strict compliance with the provision of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

Security agents are giving their full support to INEC operations for effectiveness.
