FRSC prosecutes 36 motorists for 110 traffic offences in Anambra

The Anambra Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps says it has within the last few days, arraigned and prosecuted no fewer than 41 motorists at the Special Mobile Court for various traffic offences in the state.

The Sector Commander, Sunday Ajayi, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Awka, the state capital.

Ajayi said that while the offenders committed 110 traffic offences, 36 of the tried offenders were convicted with option of fines.

He added that the court, however, acquitted five of the offenders after they were cautioned and discharged of the alleged charges.

The FRSC boss noted that the prevalent among the offences were violation of Installation of Speed Limiting Device, Number Plate Violation and Light Sign Violation.

He said: “A total of 41 traffic offenders were arrested and prosecuted in a Mobile Court held at RS5.3, Awka on November 8, for committing various traffic Offences.

“The major offences were failure to install speed limiting device, number plate violation, and light sign violation.

“At the end of the mobile court session, 36 offenders were convicted with option of fines, while five were cautioned and discharged.

“Total number of offences is 110 and the most prevalent is failure to install Speed limiting device.”

Ajayi said that enforcement was part of the programmes of the command to raise safety consciousness among road users.

He warned motorists against carelessness and dangerous driving, adding that “all these efforts are geared towards safety on our roads in Anambra during this season”.

He added: “We warn against toying with the safety of road users by careless motorists.”
