Delta Assembly slams 3-month suspension on lawmaker

The Delta State House of Assembly has suspended the member representing Burutu Constituency II, Hon. Kennedy Daubry for three months.

This follows his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The defection of the lawmaker to the APC, is a big threat to some politicians.

The suspended lawmaker has been nominated as the APC Candidate in Burutu Federal Constituency.

The suspension followed a motion raised by the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere and seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi.

Hon. Owhefere said the motion became necessary following the character being displayed by Hon. Daubry in recent times.

Hon. Owhefere said the characters were unbecoming of a lawmaker.

He said the sanctity of the House must be respected at all times by members, stressing that as a lawmaking House, members should live up to expectations.

The Majority Leader argued that all members must improve on the sanctity of the House the way they met it.

He stressed that Daubry had behaved in a manner that was unbecoming of a lawmaker, hence the need to suspend him.

The motion was adopted when put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
